Swift Edition only requires 2d10s

Swift Edition Rules is the "rules lite" version of Rainwall. This edition makes skills checks more streamlined for those players who opt for less crunch than the standard Arctix rules provide. Swift rules allow for players to use 2d10s for everything.

Key Differences

The most notable difference is in Skills and Combat Checks. Instead of rolling the number of dice indicated by your Trait score and then factoring in successes, players now simply roll 2d10 for everything. To determine what a player needs to roll to succeed, add the Trait and Skill scores together. Player must roll equal to or less (roll under) than that number. The other difference is that now, instead of Difficulty Rating determining number of successes needed, a modified difficulty system is implemented to account for difficulty of tasks:

  • -5 Near Impossible
  • -4 Extremely Difficult
  • -3 Very Difficult
  • -2 Difficult
  • -1 Challenging
  • 0 Average Difficulty
  • +1 Somewhat Easy
  • +2 Easy
  • +3 Very Easy
  • +4 Simple
  • +5 Extremely Simple

Combat is done the same as swift skills checks (add Trait to skill score, then factor in difficulty modifiers). The off die determines hit placement (see combat). Damage is done like usual, with Increment of Success, except the IoS is divided by 2 (round down for odd numbers). For example, if a roll of 12 is needed, and the dice equal 8, that is an IoS of 3 (2 for the roll difference plus 1 that you get for succeeding by default; if this one is confusing see IoS).

Example Rolls

The following table provides some examples where there is no additional difficulty modifier.
