A sub-type ("sub-arch") is any archetype that is an extension of one of the core six. These archetypes offer a bit more flavor to each character. In addition to the core six archetypes already listed, there are 18 other archetypes a player can select. These are extensions of the base archetypes, as each of these uses the same upgrade discounts as their parent archetype, however, they provide characters with a different skill set. Some of these archetypes also come with new Tricks to choose from that aren’t available to other archetypes.

One is not limited to these, however. Essentially, making a new archetype is as easy as picking a parent archetype to set the upgrade discounts, then you simply need to choose the primary and secondary skills, along with any other unique abilities. Use the archetypes below as a guide and get creative! You can even create new Tricks for the archetypes you create to provide an even greater level of variety and styles of gameplay. Creating a new archetype is a great way to get a blend of multiple different archetypes.

Medic Subs

  • Healer - The Healer seems to prefer an even mixture between the mystical and the scientific. And not only are they skilled at patching up friends and colleagues, they seem to enjoy fixing just about anything. Part Medic, part Fixer, the Healer is an ideal companion for groups that have neither.
  • Herbalist - The Herbalist prefers to heal with folk medicine rather than modern medicine. They understand that eventually modern medical supplies will run out, so being able to make your own remedies is something that makes them an asset.
  • Shaman - The Shaman is part Herbalist, part Priest. They prefer to heal with natural remedies and the power of prayer. They are both wise and mystical, and have a deep connection with nature. They also possess an unnatural talent for dealing with animals.

Charmer Subs

  • Ambassador - The Ambassador is a skilled negotiator. They prefer to solve problems through reason and persuasion, and can mediate with the best of them. They know how to form and leverage alliances to bring everyone closer to a mutually-beneficial agreement.
  • Courtesan (or Courtier) - The Courtesan/Courtier is a master at court intrigue. They operate best when blending in with high society, and are capable of holding the attention of anyone. They are captivating, cultivated, and savvy.
  • Priest (or Priestess) - The Priest/Priestess understands that the world will always need the comfort of a higher power, and they are just the person to act as go-between. They are both charismatic and wise, and they seem to know just how to attract a following.

Outlaw Subs

  • Hustler - The Hustler, also known as the swindler or con artist, is highly adept at scamming people. They are part Charmer, part thief, and they can make just about any fool part with their hard-won resources. They are unmatched when it comes to lying.
  • Smuggler - The Smuggler excels at acquiring resources and transporting them. They understand the importance of safeguarding their wares and concealing them from those who would want to steal them.
  • Spy - The Spy excels at blending in wherever they are. They will infiltrate even the most dangerous places to observe or collect valuable information. They rely on their charm and casual demeanor to disarm even the most untrusting people.

Hunter Subs

  • Prepper - The Prepper has one goal in mind: survival. Unlike the pure Hunter, they excel at knowing how to procure the items they need. Scavenging is second-nature to them, but they can survive off the land as well.
  • Ranger - The Ranger is at home in the open wilderness, and can find their way under even the most harrowing conditions. They operate best as navigators, and can sneak and observe in almost any environment.
  • Scout - The Scout is the consummate observer. They are skilled at finding danger, enemies, or food sources in the wild. They have keen senses and provide an early warning system in a world where alarms have gone the way of the cellular phone.

Fixer Subs

  • Curator - The Curator’s specialty is finding rare or important items. They have a knack for knowing where to look for whatever they need, and they are also very capable when it comes to using their talents to gain favor or resources.
  • Driver - The Driver likes machinery of all kinds, and they seem to possess a rare talent for being able to operate any kind of vehicle. They know their way around cars. And not only can they pilot a variety of vehicless, they can ride a variety of mounts just as well.
  • Hacker - Despite there being no power grid or internet, technophiles have still managed to find a number of ways to put their vast skills to use. They simply understand electronics inside and out, and one thing is for certain: electronics are ripe for the taking.

Merc Subs

  • Assassin - Whereas the Mercenary is a gun for hire who might be called upon to perform a wide variety of tasks (bodyguard, armed escort, capture, sentry or patrol duty, etc.), the Assassin’s primary skillset is designed for killing.
  • Bounty Hunter - Bounty Hunters are the best at locating and apprehending people. They are excellent trackers, and are skilled in capturing people alive. They will pursue a target relentlessly for as long as it takes.
  • Warlord - The Warlord seeks only one thing: power. They do this through building an army and taking whatever they please by force. They understand that there is safety in numbers, and as long as they are in charge, they are in their element.
