The Bluebacks are the largest, most widespread gang of marauders and cutthroats in the Federation of New American States. They have developed a reputation for brutality, and are particularly adept at stealing and slaving. They are named so because they wear denim jackets to identify themselves as members, and Blueback thugs are known to decorate their jackets with campaign pins, which are given as prizes by leaders in exchange for accomplishing big tasks. The Bluebacks are considered the largest threat to the new government, and is a primary target of operations for the New American States Army Corps.

The Bluebacks maintain a strict chain of command, which operates with a unified ranking structure (see below). Each successive rank controls a larger territory, and each boss is in command of the ranks below them within their territory. When a crew grows large enough in number, a member is promoted and given their own crew in order to take over new territory. While many Blueback war parties or raiders massacre survivors as an intimidation tactic, it is also very common for Bluebacks to establish hideouts near settled territories, which they can manipulate through their control of resources and intimidation.

Recruitment

Most new members are brought into the group through sponsorship by existing members, or new members are selected from the local populace in areas where Bluebacks have established a foothold. New prospects can also voluntarily join, which is seen as favorable, as they put themselves at great risk to do so (risking death or slavery). In some cases, a slave may earn their freedom by opting to join the ranks.

Subfactions

The Bluebacks MC is a motorcycle club with charters in Atlanta and Detroit. They still fall under the umbrella of the Bluebacks as a whole, but with their own rules and culture. In both charters, the president holds the rank of O'erlord, but reports directly to the highest ranking Blueback in their respective cities.

History

The Bluebacks were somewhat inadvertently created by Emperor Steve and Chancellor Eric, who were roommates while they attended the Quinlan School of Business in Chicago. They decided to take advantage of the widespread chaos following the outbreak of the Vanthavirus, and put their business acumen to use by seizing control of most of the liquor supply in the Chicago area. They employed the use of local thugs to do this, and the operation quickly grew to include drugs and arms, which they also needed to secure their inventory. During this process, they discovered they needed a better organization scheme for the hired guns, and so they created the Bluebacks as a way of solidifying the group, which grew quickly into a sizable cartel. By promoting some members to leadership positions, they began expanding their territories, and took a "hands-off" approach, allowing each region to function somewhat autonomously while still answering to the two founders. This allowed them to continue running the business while "not getting their hands dirty."

Goals

Their primary goal is to continue expanding territory and seizing power through control of resources.
